Quantum programming : Grover’s algorithm
The Grover algorithm, invented by Lov grover in 1996, is usually introduced as a way to perform a search in non-structured data based which offers a quadratic speed-up when compared to equivalent classical approaches. Specifically, this algorithm can be used to solved so called satisfiability problems (SAT) where some Boolean variables (True or False) are linked through logical operators (and, or, not) to form logical propositions. If, for a given set of variables’ values, all propositions are verified, the problem is said to be satisfiable. In this Micro-WIL we will clarify the meaning of all this and apply the Grover algorithm to concrete satisfiability problems.

EDGE Graduate Professional Development Certificate
The EDGE Professional Skills Certificate program is designed to foster broad skills and competencies that are both meaningful to you and understood to be critical for success in the knowledge economy (COU, 2011). They are qualities Memorial expects of all graduates under our University’s Teaching and Learning Framework (MUN, 2014) and aligned with the employability skills identified by the Conference Board of Canada (2016) as being vital in today’s world of work. Adapting Travis’ (1972) wellness continuum model, EDGE’s resources and workshops are intended to build awareness of, enable practice in, and foster expertise with these collaborative skills and competencies.
Entrepreneurship Training Program
Memorial’s Entrepreneurship Training Program (ETP) is a program for graduate students interested in starting a business and/or learning the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. There are different ETP programs for each semester. The main programs are the ETP Discover (Fall) and ETP Develop (Winter). They consist of two main components: workshop modules (online, asynchronous) and special topic sessions (hybrid mode), which provide graduates with the knowledge necessary to start and run successful business ventures and the resources and support they need to succeed in doing business. The Entrepreneurial Inspiration program (Summer) includes special topic sessions (hybrid mode) focusing on “sharing from and talking with entrepreneurs.” It inspires students to be interested in entrepreneurship and transfers invaluable experiences from the entrepreneurs to the ETP graduates for their next steps.
The ETP is delivered through interactive presentations and workshops by award-winning entrepreneurs and faculty. The program covers core entrepreneurship themes and skills such as problem-solving and design learning, the lean start-up methodology, sales, marketing and financial planning. The ETP also connects graduate students to local entrepreneurs, mentors, funding sources and other essential resources.
Discover Program - Fall 2024
Develop Program - Winter 2025

Volunteer Work
AI ethics is central to the adoption of AI. Regulations are being developed across the world that will determine ethicality and market access. This course will explain to decision makers how ethicality is assessed in an AI solution, the differences between the risk-based approaches, and the advantages of outcomes based risk models. It will also introduce IEEE CertifAIEd AI ethics evaluation solution for AIS, how it works, and how to test an AI solution for ethicality with IEEE CertifAIEd.
This course is a foundational training on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) to help individuals develop competencies in inclusive behaviours and emotional intelligence. EDI in engineering and geoscience means fostering professional environments and relationships that welcome and advocate for diversity among professionals and enable all professionals to contribute to their full potential without barriers or discriminations. This includes people who are part of one or more equity-seeking groups that have been historically, persistently, and systemically marginalized in Canadian society, including but not limited to all genders, LGBTQ2S+ persons, Indigenous people, Black people, people of colour, and persons with disabilities. Through this course you will gain knowledge and skills in cultural and emotional intelligence and other inclusive behaviours.
